According to the Puranas, offering bel Patra (Leaves of golden apple) has a deep significance in Hindu puja rituals.
The
leaves of the Bel tree are called Bel leaves. Bel patra has three leaves
attached but are considered a single leaf.
Bel Patra is widely used to worship Hindu deities, especially Shiva. It is
believed that if there is nothing in the worship of Shiva, then only one
belpatra is enough, but if everything is there and there is no bel patra, then
the worship remains incomplete.
It
is said that whoever offers a bel patra to the Shivlinga with devotion, Lord
Shiva blesses him/her with whatever he/she wishes.
In
the scriptures, three leaves of Bel patra were considered symbols of Raja, Sattva, and Tamoguna.
Bel patra
is never impure. Skanda Purana has also said that if new Bel leaves
are not available, then those Bel leaves that have already been offered can
also be rewashed and offered.
Bel patra
is always offered upside down to Lord Mahadev. This means offering Belpatra only while touching the side towards the smooth surface with the idol of Mahadev. Always offer Bel patra with the help of ring finger, thumb, and middle finger.
Bel
patra will be offered continuously for 21 days on your behalf.
